How to manage your time
Trying to balance all of your commitments, such as school, work, volunteering, sports, hobbies, and social life, can sometimes be overwhelming and very stressful. One of the most priceless skills you can learn in university is time management. It is a main component to being prosperous. Time management is the ability of making intelligent decisions about how to compute and arranging your time in the right manner in order to achieve preset goals or targets .There are some ways to help managing our time.
First you need to start with a calendar. There are a lot of ways to do this based on what you prefer. You can buy a big and beautiful calendar from the bookstore, or you can use Google Calendar in your phone or your laptop. It makes you easily to refer to your calendar with your phone or laptop. A calendarhelps you to organize your due date, activities and appointments . You can follow your calendar and don’t have to waste your time on thinking what to do next . Recognizing your own deadlines early on can help you see if you have any task you get to prepare for in advance. It also guides you to make a timeline of when you should start preparing for your midterms or exams.
It is really vital to fill-in your excitement and parties in your calendar as well. This will assure you motivated and really looking forward to something you have been waiting for a long time. Therefore you can prevent the devastating despair that comes from looking at a month full of responsibility. It will also make your life more balanced.
You can also create a simple “To Do” list for weeks. You need to create the list at the beginning of each day and make a note for the important items and which ones you can put off for later. You can use different color highlighter to make a mark , for example ‘yellow‘ needs to get done right way , ‘red’ is next and ‘ blue’ is last .Organizing more workable plans by subdividing larger tasks into smaller, more manageable ones, can really help you complete your goals. You can even go down to the very ridiculous of small to help you get started and celebrate your accomplishments, instead of agonize over what remains to be done and remember to celebrate your accomplishments by doing small things that make you feel proud and successful.
Besides, you have to dedicate study place and time. You need to identify the best time or day for you to study weatheryou is a morning or an evening person? You prefer to study hard during the week and then take it easy on the weekend? Or do you prefer to study on weekends? You should also find a dedicated study space that is free of distractions, so the UTSC library might not be your best bet. You can book study spaces in advance, find quiet coffee shops, lock yourself in at home, or find any personal spaces where you can concentrate.
